The Future of Media #81 Get Out Your Crystal Ball

1. For all the developments listed above, I think the Internet will redefine
culture in the future. The Internet and World Wide Web will be the most
important technology that influence our daily life.
Compared to other technology; broadcast, cable and satellite, the cost of
the internet is going down and the cost for those three are going up.
By the way,the Internet is faster and cheaper.

The merger of Comcast and NBC is the consolidation of Video and Broadband.
I think the Internet/Television combination will be the major trends shaping
the Media Industry.

2. I am not an early adopter of every technology gadget. But I do appreciated
the new inventions that enrich our daily life, such as Personal Computer,
World Wide Web, Video Game, Digital Music, Digital Video recorder, Computer
Animation, Music Synthesizer and Remove Control etc.

My favorite media gidget is Region-Free DVD Player, since DVDs are coded
to a region of the World . It breaks down to 10 Regions (0-9).
So, here in the US, we're Region 1 , In the UK, DVDs are Region 2, DVDs
won't play in Region 1 players and vice versa.
The Region-free DVD Player enable users to view any DVD from anywhere in
the world.
Both BestBuy and Sears carry inexpensive Region-Free DVD Player, and the Players
work very well. I am able to watch the shows, performance and films from
Asia, Europe and elsewhere.
I recommended it wholeheartly to everyone.

The Future of Media #80 : Movie

1. I watched a free full-length special program of "Audrey Hepbur Remembered"    on HULU.  By the way I am able to watch some foreign classic movies on Youtube,    such as "Sissi" (German )and "The Singer, Not the Song" (British). Youtube    provides the full coverage. I searched some US Movies on Youtube, the coverage    is incomplete(Copyright issue?) I like Hulu which provides a broad range of collection.

I still prefer watching DVDs on TV, since TV has larger screen and better
sounding effects.

2. IMDB is my favorite site to check out the current or coming-soon movies, it
provides the info on Director, Plot, Cast, User Rating etc. I always read
the reviews before I watching the movie.

3. If I consider using any of the fee-based service, I would definitely choose
Netflex. First of all Netflex has a huge collection (over 100,000 DVD Titles)
Secondly Netflex provides pretty good service , the customers received their
DVD in about 1 business day.
We were used to go to local Blockbuster for Movie Rental, the New Release (One
Night Only) charges is expensive and we had to watch the DVD hurry-hurry.
As always, the movies needed to be returned on time , since the late fee is
high too.
Netflex is very customer-friendly and I personally think that's the key
reason for it's booming business.

Chinese New Year; Year of Tiger - Feb 14,2010

I wish everyone have a Happy and Healthy New Year! I wish the world with lasting
peace to all the nations.

Both natural and man-made disasters continue to cause pain and suffering to
people. Human life is more important than profit.

The Future of Media #79: Television

  1. I visited Hulu, TV.com, Joost, viewmy.tv and casttv,  I watched some episodes of     "The Office","family Guy", "Dog Whisper" and "CSI", the episode is the most      recent one and each episode including commercials (at least 9 seconds).     I searched my favorites such as Scooby Doo,CSI and Dog Whisper.  They are all     on the list. I am able to watch the full episodes.  Sometime the viewer has     to search by "Air Date" to link the previous episodes.  2. I am unable to watch any TV show on my celler phone, since my cell phone is     quite old. By the way I am not interested in watching TV shows on cell phone     and I prefer the traditional and more relaxed way to watch TV. Watching TV     on a tiny screen is not enjoyable.  3. I watched some puppy show and Cat says show on Ustream. I have not posted any     videos onthe streaming programs.

Text Message

1. I have not sent a text message befroe the iHCPL Training. Thanks to iHCPL
which enforced all staff to keep up with the new knowledge and skill.

2. I read through the basics , practice couple times , send several messages
to my children and they reply to the message immediately. It is fun.
I think I am able to send a message in an emergency.

3. I have not use text Lingo yet and I will try later.

4. Texting while driving spells big troubles. It is dangerous and stupid.
Since you are unable to type and drive at the same time. The article on
New York Times brought to us pay attention to this serious issue.

Spring Cleaning in Cyberspace

I deleted some old messages from my email, the oldest one was back in 2004.
I also deleted some files from the special folders, such as the out-of-date
Library policies and information.

In the meantime, I move some of my favorable pictures and photos to the
permanent storage (USB drive).
Don't clutter up the cyberspace is very important.

It is better organized to check the files as well as to improve the
efficiency of the computer.

The cleaning job should be done regularly.
